A building I am doing is going to have a wheelchair lift installed to run from the 1st to 2nd floor. The lift it's self is 24v dc I am having to supply a 120v 20 amp circ. for the charging of the batteries. I installed a 60 amp non fusible disconnect (same as what is installed for a/c units). Elevator guy is trying to tell me that it must have a handle so it can be locked in the off position. I am saying that because the hinged lid has a tab that a lock can be installed it would meet code. After referring to 620.51 (A) excp. 1 and going to 430.109(C) I am not sure if the disconnect is exceptable.

ceb58,

Elevator man always win, Electrical man always lose. Smart man listen to Elevator man.

Could not have said it better myself.:D

If this lift will be inspected by an elevator inspector your will be putting in the disconnecting means of their choice or the elevator will remain unused.

I had to change a disconnect in just this scenario. The disconnect cannot be able to be locked in the "on" position, only in the "off". (Per the elevator inspector)

The pullout disconnect I installed could be locked both ways.
