Good Day to you all, I have a few questions I'm going to ask for help with, #1 is on a job I'm doing there is a plating room and the main chemical used is Nichoal sulfate. What kind of conduit will be up to code to use? PVC sch 80? Ridge pipe? sealtight flex? or rob roy? My second question it I have a 400amp sub 480v aprox 120' from main 350 or 500 mcm? and last Question I need to add a 75 kva trans 480 pri 120/240 second what size should the disconnect be fused at? 120 amp or 200 amp I'm thinking 120 as I'm bucking down? I really appricate all you who will reply and share you knowlage with me as I'm working on my first big project and it's an as built, have a GREAT DAY!

*See NEC 310.16 for conductor size based on ampacity.

last Question I need to add a 75 kva trans 480 pri 120/240 second what size should the disconnect be fused at? 120 amp or 200 amp

**Primary fuse sized by: %1.25 x full load amps. I = kVA / (V x 1.74)

I once came across the prettiest motorcyle I've ever seen. It was a nickel plated Confederate - American GT. They were asking $22,000. I only dreampt about it.

I have not dealt with the specific chemicals mentioned, but I have done lobito of repair and renovation work in plating facilities. Any raceway remotely near the plating room/equipment has always been sch 40 PVC.

Everything else, including the ceiling is corrodded or rusting.

The plating process you are working with now may not present a problem, but, if they change to a different chemical, it might. The PVC (provided it will not chemically react with the chemicals you mentioned) is my personal choice.

Mike -
This site generally has excellent DIY engineering. But in this case I highly recommend hiring a PE familiar with the specific installation requirements.

In such environments most metals are suspect. Corrosives in indoor areas are much harsher than in open, outdoor environment. Suggest you consider cable tray installation with nonmetallic fasteners. Locate ALL your starters and electrical switches outside the room and only place absolutelty necessary control switches inside. Use nonmetallic cable hubs.

Even with nonmetallic materials have the materials resistance confirmed by the manufacturers. Also talk to the operations engineers to see what other chamicals are generated during the plating process, like hydrogen sulfite, etc. (just guessing) and have the chemical resistance of materials confirmed for ALL the chemicals involved.
