How could you comply with the instructions if the person who installed the receptacle put it in with the ground receiver down since the instructions only deal with the plug? :D

Then you lost your case. That yellow thing is not a UL label. It is also a remarkable stupid thing for the manufacturer to put on a device. A person need not be told that, for this device, the ground plug goes up. Any attempt to plug it in via any other orientation would fail. You might as well put labels on each individual nail, to instruct the carpenter to insert the nail pointy end first.

Re: Please read this instruction out loud!

This reminds me, and I do have a picture someplace of a truck inspection station on highway 101 in CA near Gilroy.

There is a giant warning sign on the closed roll-up door that states:
"PLEASE WAIT FOR DOOR TO OPEN BEFORE DRIVING IN TO INSPECTION GARAGE!".

Actually there are at least four closed doors and four warning signs (one for each door). What a waste of CA tax $$$!

I give truckers more credit than to drive through a closed door :)

[Edit add: Oh, and there are two stations: northbound & southbound].

This looks like an arc tight receptacle. The decal is indicating the orientation of the receptacle to make it easy for positioning the plug prior to inserting. The receptacle face is difficult to see, with the snap cover.

The receptacle appears to be 240 volts with a mechanical device to open the circuit with no exposed arc.

What is the NEMA identification of this device?

The reason signs and stickers like "WARNING" Do not reach under lawnmower while engine is running! and your door signs is someone "HAS" done it before. So my bet is a trucker has hit the door before. Probably more than once.

Many of these plugs are quite substantial in size. It is difficult to position one with one hand holding the snap cover open. The plugs have a key slot to guide it into the receptacle. It is difficult to rotate the plug with one hand.

Warning signs are for legal liability reasons, this decal is a guide for saving time and effort.
This is a very helpful decal.

Does that apply to the sticker that came attached to my propane torch:

"Do not use while sleeping."

:D ;) :p

Hazard Communications Systems has the best information labels and signs, check out there web site.
They sent me a sample sign that states:
! Danger
Lawyer Opportunity Zone
Failure to have prefectly adequate warings that anticipate every possible hazarsdous situation, no matter how remote, will result in litigation by the hordes of lawyers who well make even the most innocnet thing appear to be malicious willful intent by your company to cause great harm to their client, and leave you penniless and broken after wasting immense amounts of your time

One item I learned is the old "Danger High Voltage" sign does not meet new ANSI requirements.
A sigh has to have the pictogram, warning word,
What to do, and what happens if you don't.

Ladders have more warning labels than any device I can think of. So many labels it's hard to read them all. I they don't want us to stand above a certain level, why do they include those extra steps? :)

As for truckers and closed doors. Maybe that should be part of the driving test when they apply for their license. If they drive through a closed door, no license :)

Re: Please read this instruction out loud!

Today I was merging onto the freeway. The on ramp had the stop/go lights, on each side, for spacing traffic.

The sign read " Form two lines". I was the only one on the ramp. I had to laugh "how in the devil can I form two lines?" Is it a violation to form one line?

This is like " in case of attack, circle the wagons, unless you only have one wagon"
