PLFA Boxes?

Are boxes required for horn/strobe and/or pull stations when PLFA wiring methods are installed?

or
Can horn/stobe and/or pull stations be installed without the use of boxes (such as installing the devices to roughing covers or similar methods) when PLFA wiring methods are installed?

**2 ways of asking the same question
Thanks for the help

I would say that boxes are not required, but, usually when an alarm system is intalled there are also rated walls and such involved too, sooooo.....

I'm doing good and yourself?

It says that you can make the splice in the device it's self. So without seeing the actual device, I would stand by my answer.

And to really cover myself, we don't inspect fire alarm systems here, they are done by the FD.

Fire alarm code requires that the listing and manufacture?s instructions be followed when installing fire alarm devices. Do the instructions for your device allow mounting without a box?

From a System Sensor install sheet:
Mounting Indoor Wall or Ceiling Products
1. Attach mounting plate to junction box as shown in Figures 4 and 5. The
mounting plate is compatible with 4-inch square, double gang, and 4-inch
octagon junction boxes (2-wire products may be used with a single gang
box). If using a back box skirt, attach the mounting plate to the skirt and
then attach the entire assembly to the junction box (see Figures 6 and 7).

I also am doing well, thanks.
I agree the wording states the device is permitted. I think that the installation instructions then become very important.

Your post is excellent, and I am embarassed I did not consult the installation instructions. I wonder if these instructions are an industry type Standard?
Thanks for the response...it was more like a kick in the pants I so deserve.

I also agree that this is a good answer, and Pierre and I were just getting there when you interupted us.:happyno:

What dhalleron said. Siemens has a multi-page cut sheet detailing about 35 different mounting methods for notification appliances alone. As far as I've seen, every device they sell, with the exception of mini-modules, gets mounted to something.
