Plug-in power transformers?

Does the NEC prohibit the use of a plug-in type power supply in a ceiling, drop or otherwise? I have plenum rated low voltage equipment I wish to place above the ceiling tile, powered by a transformer plugging into a 110 outlet. I would appreciate a reference to the governing section if possible, thank you.

There is no NEC section that prohibits a plug-in transformer from being installed above a drop ceiling. The NEC prohibits cords from being installed above drop ceilings, but as long as the power transformer doesn't have a cord it is OK. Take a look at 400.8(5)
