Plumbers have doomed us!

ok, so first they got dibs on "fixtures" & we can no longer
call light fixtures, light fixtures. must use goofy term "luminaries"
now I hear they are after the term "flush device" & we are gonna
have to use "receptacle or switch level with horizontal plan of wall"
we're doomed!
;o)

What's worse, one house that I'm on where they're remodeling two bathrooms, the plumber is supplying the lighting package! Seems that Kohler is making lights that match their faucets.

I was at the supply house today and there's a plumbing company next door with 20 or 30 trucks, all saying "so and so's plumbing". and then I see this one with a big yellow magnetic sign on the side that says "Ceiling Fan installed $425.00". lol

There's a plumbing company in my town that's running radio ads that say they also do kitchen and bathroom remodeling. This is a well-respected company, and they do really good work. I was just surprised to hear that on their radio spot. They also have an electrician or two on staff, so that's what probably gives them that ability.

They have them at the Depot.

If we can just get Leviton to make toilets we can stick it to the plumber.

I hope they are better at making toilets than they are at making receptacles.

I'm not sure where to find supporting evidence for this but I herd that in the early years of the electrical industry that only plumbers could run pipe
( under U-word contract). They probably thought that we were stealing their work at the time.

Many of the plumbing & HVAC contractors already have electrical departments or at least electricians on staff to do their work. I don't see this as a big problem. You gain some you lose some. A few years ago there was really no real low voltage work to do in resiential and now there can be a substantial amount. The amount of work that available to an electrical contractor has actually increased ( there are just one heck of a lot more contractors out there).

Shouldn?t that be ?receptacle or switch plumb with horizontal plan of wall??
Or would that be a violation because of the word ?plumb??

Yep, now electricians run ?conduit.?
But at least we can bite our fingernails!:D :D

A couple of the bigger plumbing contractors around here have electricians on staff. Maybe because a lot of plumbing fixtures these days need electricity. It is often more cost effective to do some of this stuff in house rather than try and farm it out. Not a lot different that what the HVAC guys do.

actually about 60 per cent of the problems with a/c service calls deal with electricity. many years ago, a/c contractors used to hire electricians and train them in service work for this reason. now days their training includes a major area of electrical training. those electricians that hired on with mechanical contractors never returned to the electrical trade, but stayed with the a/c industry--pay was better!!!

they do make an electric toilet --- no water connections and no waste connections---120/240 volt. we installed one at a remote radio station!

Charlie,

I was working on a job last week, an electrician that worked for a local EC changed over to a mechnical contractor said the EC was paying $25 an hour with no benifits, the HVAC job is paying 50% more plus good benifits. I can see why the move he has 2 children and is pl;lanning on buying a home.

I also forgot to mention butt cleavage. Thank goodness, I've never
had to see another sparky's rear. Not the case with plumbers (can we call them drippys? if we are sparkys?)...

I've always said there only three things you need to know to be a plumber:

1. *it* runs downhill.
2. Payday is Friday.
3. It's not Plumbers Crack..... it's Cleavage.

Doubt I want anything to do with it - because Leviton can not even get electrical devices to match in colors.... Would be neat though to have porciline cover plates make a comeback....

I finished up a generator install today, that also involved a plumber. He spent as long running a gas line and the black iron pipe for the exhaust pipe as I spent wiring up the genset and transfer switch. He's screwing together primitive pipe, and I'm knee-deep in control wiring and programming transfer switch settings. If we were both on someone's payroll, I'd be willing to bet he's be paid more than me. I'm not sure why that is.

Have you ever tried to make RMC 'air-tight'?

Anyway I doubt the techs make anymore than us for equal experiance - their bosses are just wise enough to charge more.... If they make more money - they might be more willing to share that - but not to the point where it would mean a different tax bracket... Plumbers here make about the same I do.
