Emergency Lighting Maintenance

Emergency Lighting Maintenance

See 700.4
In our county, after the final electrical inspection, the fire dept will conduct periodic tests on emerg lighting in most public buildings. Ultimately, it is the building owner that is resonsible to maintain public stairway emerg and exit lights.

See NFPA 110 for further procedures.

Is there an accepted industry standard for frequency for testing of emergency lighting?

What type/system of emergency lighting do you have?
NFPA 110 Appendix A has a complete maintenance table for periodic testing of emergency generators.

NFPA 110 excludes emergency lighting battery packs (110-1.4). If you have battery packs, refer to the intallation instructions for maintenance testing.

Federal facility maintenance workers have not performed any PMs on the fixtures or tested since installation over 3 years ago.

You must check with your local authoraties as to frequency of testing em fixtures. Maintaning a log book and testing the lights every 30 days is usually sufficient.

Or, if it is a public facility, maybe you will get lucky and some ECs visiting your site will check them for you without you even asking!
