Is it permissible to run low voltage wiring and pneumatic tubing in the same conduit? I was told no but cannot find it in the code book.

Re: Pneumatic tubing in conduit

This came up once before and I asked Mike Holt about it. He said that 725.3 would allow it, but was going to check with the NFPA.
Art 800 is for telecommunications, while 725 is for power limited circuits, or what we commonly call "low voltage".

sjg,

i would suggest that you don't do it !!.
i worked for a machine shop / systems integrator for over 10 years and from experience, i would not do this.
we built an electrical control system for a company and had to use an electro/pneumatic pressure switch. i convinced the boss to place the pneumatic devices in a separate enclosure with the electrical wires going to the main control panel at the top of the box. six months later, an airline burst inside the enclosure and the control panel was flooded with 6 inches of water. maintenance opened the door and the water went everywhere. fortunately for us, the oil inside the airline caused by the compressor lubrication system did not get into the electrical controls beacuse of an exhaust vent on the enclosure for this very reason.
other companies has water problems as well.

i hope this helps.

Re: Pneumatic tubing in conduit

Phwhite-this question was from a company that installs jail security and control wiring. They often run the pneumatic in the conduit as is going to doors and similar. They have a problem bidding jobs as the requirements are different in different locations. great comments and I agree with you as air lines can get moisture in them, but the jail folks apparently like to run the tubing in the conduit with other conductors
