For my POCO the fuses are usually to protect the grid from a failed transformer, rather than to protect the transformer itself.

Why do people write Bay-O-Net instead of bayonet, which is most common for push-and-turn connectors? Was that a trademark at one time? (Example- the humble BNC connector stands for Bayonet Neill–Concelman, the latter two words being the inventor's names.)

It still is a brand name.

For the same reason we write S&C rather than circuit switcher, or crescent wrench instead of adjustable wrench.
