I tried to locate this in the 2011 NEC, is an unattached garage considered a separate building, accessory building or a auxiliary building?
Here is the situation I have a garage that I want to subfeed from the house. I read in the code that I need to run a "feed", from a breaker in the main panel, to the garage. I would go underground, as opposed to overhead, is a 4 conductor cable, required overhead only? underground? or both. I found this once I cannot find it again.

Yes it is a separate structure and article 225 part II applies
