Point to Point wiring checks

I'm curious to hear what process others use for doing point to point wire checks in the field between two distant locations. Usually within a same equipment enclosure or panel its easy to just use a meter to connect directly to both ends of a wire but wanted to see how others went bout it where two panels were remote from each other?

I've seen both meters and phones used in the past with one end of the meter/phone at each end of wire connected to ground and the other end connected to the circuit wire in question?

If you're just checking continuity to find wires or confirm them, I wirenut two together. Then check the other end with meter for continuity. If you're unsure of which wire is which, you can find a wire that is easily identified such as an EGC, or use a known grounded source, then tie a wire to that and check each other wire to that with a meter.

Even doing this is easier (less walking) with a helper.

I put a diode on that circuit on the opposite end, so I can confirm I found the proper wire, not just another wire going to ground.

I should have also added that I sometimes use a toner. You can confirm a pair of wires or a ground & wire for sure with a toner.
