Hey guys. Long time reader.

I have a question pertaining to a new pole Building I will be putting up to run a small business out off.

I've done several residential electrical service upgrades up to 200 amps. I'm contemplating installing all of the electrical in my new building myself. I live in PA and I don't know (being the owner) what my limitations are as to what I am legally allowed to do without being a licensed electrician.

It will be a 200 amp underground service. Main breaker panel right inside the adjacent wall from the meter base. A sub breaker panel on the other side of the building.

Minimally, I thought about having a licensed electrician get everything installed up to the point of the main breaker panel. All branch circuits I will install at a later time.

Any guidance will be appreciated.

You need to find out who the AHJ is where this building is to be located, whether it be State, City, County, or other. Then find out what their laws are for your circumstances.

Here by law you can not wire this if you are not licensed. If it is out in the middle of nowhere you possibly get away with it, but is still against the laws, if it is an agricultural purpose building it is exempt from permits and inspections (electrical permits and inspections anyway), but strict reading of the law may still require being licensed to do the wiring.

Your laws may be different.

Thanks.

I've shot an email off to a local inspector as well.

From what I read so far you don't have to be licensed but it must be inspected. But That also depends on location.
