pole lights

I was doing a service call for some pole lights a notice one pole lights seemed very close to a high voltage line. can someone tell me code how close a pole light can be to high voltage lines?

I think that NEC "Table 110.31 Minimum Distance from Fence to Live Parts" can give a basic idea but you would really have to consult the power company that owns the conductors.


Here are the distances from the table
601 ? 13,799 volts - 10 feet
13,800? 230,000 volts - 15 feet
Over 230,000 volts - 18 feet

We just use the OSHA working clearances--10 feet up to 50kV and plus .4 inch per kV over that--if we can't work there then we darn sure can't hang anything there

We work under NESC codes in the POCO industry. From NESC 234(B) "a horizontal clearance, without wind, of 1.50m (5.0 ft.) for voltages up to 50 kV."
"A vertical clearance of 1.40m (4.5 ft.) for voltages below 22 kV and a vertical clearance of 1.70m (5.5 ft. for voltages between 22 kV and 50 kV."
There are some exceptions here. The clearance can be reduced to 2 ft if the line is effectively grounded, (if it is a neutral line).
How close did it look?
