Pole mounted services

Got shot down today on a pole mounted service. The local inspector does not enforce two rods here,....yet. He stated pole mounted services had to have a grounding loop with two rods. I am glancing through the '05, anyone direct me quicker?

It is not required by the NEC.

This a simple convenience panel on an empty lot with one GFCI recep.. There's just the meter can on the pole and a 100A panel. We are not required for a seperate disconnect besides the main in the panel.

then it is a structure being served and requires a grounding electrode system ,..IMO
 
Nemo, I am sorry I misunderstood your question.

My first response was about the 'ground loop'

You must provide some type of grounding electrode system.

Bob how could you reply and so strongly too ,.. when you don't even know what this mysterious ground looping thingy is :D
 
100A panel, pole mounted. One rod, #4 wire (local amendment), on the river bank. I mean right on the bank, you could probably dig down 4 foot and hit water. Even if it was my own place I never would of drove two rods.


What he stated, it's obviously local,...... A pole mounted service must have a two rod loop. That is one #4 to one rod connected to a second rod 6' or more away and then looped back into the panel for a second land.


Here I am going through the '05 getting disturbed. So much for finding that one:rolleyes:

Yeah you won't find the second (loop) landing ,.in the NEC ,..but unless you can prove 25 ohms or less it's two rods. 250.56
 
I am aware of the two rods, <25ohms res., that's not enforced here,...yet. It's the second land/loop statement that lost me. Time to get the ice axe out I guess:rolleyes: Oh well, live and learn.
