pond pump

i have a pond pump tripping a gfci,that but if i take the pump out of the water it runs , if i put the pump in the water but don't connect the pipe that supplies the water it runs, but when i connect the pipe supplies the water it trips. when i plug it into a non gfci rec. pump runs fine any suggestions?

IMO,is sounds as if your windings are failing and only show under load. Can you dead head the pump and see what it does? I think you have a failing motor that needs to be megged. It could be the wires coming to the motor.Have you megged them?

GFCI is a ground fault circuit interrepter and it trips for gound fault in a very small amount of amper like milli ampere. There must be something wrong with your motor which GFCI trips. So, please chech your motor once.

Get a new pump?

Usually I find its the cord not the pump that goes bad. I think you have figured out its the pump here though.

in my world we call this "seal fail" of which protective measures are installed....this same scenario killed a maintenance worker in Texas just a month ago...replace the pump.
