There is a UL Swimming Pool and Spa Listing for low voltage transformers. In searching through NEC, I only find a single instance where this listing is mentioned - in 680.23(A)(2) for underwater fixtures.
My question relates to this and a previous discussion on the allowed distance in mounting low voltage lighting near a pool. The conclusions were:
NEC Article 411.4 B. This code states that low voltage lighting systems can not be installed within 10 ft. of pools, spas, fountains or similar locations except where permitted by Article 680.
NEC Article 680.22 B (4). This code allows the installation of lighting fixtures less than 10ft. but no closer than 5 ft. from the water if the power supply is protected by a GFCI circuit.
Since both UL and NEC require these outdoor transformers to be GFCI protected then the allowed distance for all such systems would be 5 ft.
Two questions: 1. Any disagreement with the above? 2. Any reason why the Pool and Spa transformers would be needed for fixtures installed in the 5 ft. to 10 ft. region?
