Pool Filter GFI direct wired

I have a 240volt pool filter that has tripped the gfi 6 times in the last few weeks. I have not checked for moisture or anything yet. There is an outdoor panel and the filter and heater are wired right there. By 680-22A-5 in the 05 code I believe I can put in a regular 20amp 2-pole since it is direct wired. Is that correct and is it a good idea.

That is correct. The 2005 allows no gfci. There are millions out there but if it is tripping the gfci I would guess there is something going bad in the pump.

I agree. If you have a megger or have access to one, it might be a help to the customer to test the pump motor. I have seen a few of these motors go bad in a relatively short time compared to other motors. Probably due to their exposure to the elements.
Sounds like something is leaking to ground inside the motor somewhere.

wouldn't a single phase motor have a start capacitor that that would make a megger reading meaningless?
