Pool Heater Circuit Division

680.9 says pool heater loads "shall have the heating elements subdivided into loads not exceeding 48 amperes and protected at not over 60 amperes". There is a pool heater who's nameplate load is 78 amps, can this be done legally? Big heater...

Have you checked to see if the heating elements are internally protected (subdivided) so as to meet that Code section. Often they are,
