Homeowner has a above ground pool with the pump placed next to the side wall. I mention the pump receptacle needs to be five feet away from the pool.. they want to run an extension chord to feed the motor where its been sitting......
can the leads out of the motor pecker head be made longer or is there a 3' max rule..... can the motor be placed right next to the pool...?

Thank you

Check this out

680.8 Cord-and-Plug-Connected Equipment. Fixed or stationary
equipment, other than underwater luminaires, for a permanently
installed pool shall be permitted to be connected with a
flexible cord and plug to facilitate the removal or disconnection
for maintenance or repair.
(A) Length. For other than storable pools, the flexible cord
shall not exceed 900 mm (3 ft) in length.

I guess the first question is this a storable pool by definition? How deep. If it is storable

680.34 Receptacle Locations. Receptacles shall not be located
less than 1.83 m (6 ft) from the inside walls of a storable pool,
storable spa, or storable hot tub. In determining these dimensions,
the distance to be measured shall be the shortest path
the supply cord of an appliance connected to the receptacle
would follow without piercing a floor, wall, ceiling, doorway
with hinged or sliding door, window opening, or other effective
permanent barrier.

Storable Swimming, Wading, or Immersion Pools; or Storable/
Portable Spas and Hot Tubs. Swimming, wading, or immersion
pools that are intended to be stored when not in use,
constructed on or above the ground and are capable of holding
water to a maximum depth of 1.0 m (42 in.), or a pool, spa,
or hot tub constructed on or above the ground, with nonmetallic,
molded polymeric walls or inflatable fabric walls regardless
of dimension.

Thank you Dennis.. !!!!

No it's not a storable pool.

The homeowners brother hooked it up years ago..... he plugged into a gfci receptacle on a deck... (burning out several receptacles inside the house that where back stabbed feeding this gfci receipt) he sleeved a sj extension cord through a pvc buried conduit to a switch mounted on the frame of the pool to a cord to plug to the motor.
The motor sits right next to the side wall of the pool.

She's moaning that she doesn't want to move the motor... can we this, can we that...

smh...

Then the depth of the water is 42" or more and should be installed as a standard pool. You need equipotential bonding etc.

Yes......... I agree.

The pool went in years ago.. kinda hidden property on side of mountain.. no permits.. to fence.. wacky wiring...
I can only present this to the person in hopes they have me do the right thing. If not, guess I will have to walk.. maybe we'll see next spring..

Thank you Dennis.

Permanent barrier between pump/receptacle and pool a possibility?

Good thinking. Would a standard 6' height latex fence section work ???
I don't recall heights or width measurements. Just permanent barrier

What about flanking ??

Correct me if I'm wrong is the intent that it can't be reached when in the pool ??
Or seviceing equipment and touching pool.

Or both ??

Good idea.

Height of a fence permitted is likely an AHJ call, but yes both and maybe more.
