680.21(4) says in the interior of an accessory building, if a raceway is used as a wiring method, the ecg must be insulated. I goes on to say if it's a cable, the ecg can be bare.

This may be a dumb question, but if in the case of a building to house a pool pump,I stub a piece of pvc conduit under the slab, turn it up at the pump location and extend it outside the slab, does this mean I can't run uf through the conduit? Or am I reading it totally wrong?

680.21(4) permits you to use any wiring method recognized in chapter 3 but once you exit the dwelling your branch circuit must be installed in GRC, IMC, RNMC or MC listed for the location. UF cable is not a recognized wiring method for swimming pool motor branch circuits. If your intending to install RNMC continuous from the dwelling to the pump location then pull UF cable through the conduit you should pull individual conductors instead.

Re: pool pump ckt

Thanks Curt, I,ve done very little pool pump wiring, but I do have rnmc from the house to the building, stubbed up in the outside wall to a deep 1900 box. indivdual conductors will be an easier pull anyway.
