I understand that 680.22 says that a pool pump motor 15-20amp 120 or 240volt has to have gfci protection. What about a 3 phase motor?

GFI only if cord and plug connected.

Under the 2008 NEC GFCI protected whether cord and plug connected or hard wired.

680.22(B) GFCI Protection. Outlets supplying pool pump motors from branch circuits with short-circuit and ground-fault protection rated 15 or 20 amperes, 125 volt or 240 volt, single phase, whether by receptacle or direct connection, shall be provided with ground-fault circuit-interrupter protection for personnel.

I stand corrected. See what happens when you don't do things on a dailey basis? Haven't been inspecting since the 2008 came out here in Florida and have been following along and staying informed here on this site. Even read before I posted but didn't see!!!!!!

Hey Butch,

Be aware the 2007 FBC exempts 1&2 Family Dwellings from the requirements of 680.22(B). See Section 2706 of the FBC.
