We just had major storms last night and the phone is ringing off the hook regarding generators. One question I received was if the customer (a golf and swim club) could have me hook up a generator for the pool pumps. I told them it sure didn't sound like a good idea to me. Looking for input.

Right here.
I'd do it in a heartbeat. The pool doesn't care if it gets its power from the PoCo's generator or their own generator. Properly done, the overload protection will remain in tact. The bonding is done already.

I agree, I'd do it with no hesitation.

Even if it's just a portable unit?

the generator or the pool?

either way, the pool will not really care. The only concern I would have is if you planned on running the generator inside for an indoor pool.
