My son has two 7 1/2 hp pumps with FLA as 22. There is a controller with them, but it's in pieces. He needs to hook these up temporarily in order to demolish the exisiting pump house to build a new one. They are 3 phase 220 volt. I was thinking building a rack with the controller and installing a 60 amp 3 phase disconnect with a cable running to his generator. It's a 3 phase generator with a 60 amp 3 pole breaker. I can't recall the actual kw/kva of the generator. Just need to get some input on this

There are also 3 other pumps that are in the old pump house now that will have to installed at a later date. I did suggest a temp 3 phase 200 amp service for this but thought he could get by with the generator, or generators. There will be the problem of co-ordination with lots of people in order to disconnect the permanent power and hooking up the temp power without disrupting the pumps. We're talking 500 gallons of poop a minute. Don't want to make a mistake.

Can you use an engine powered pump to do the work of the electric pumps while the electrical work is being done? Often that is easier than working with a generator.

I'm afraid that the time frame wouldn't let this happen. It's on a sewer main with lots of flow 24 hrs a day. It has to last as long as it takes to build a new pump house.

Sewage never stops

Sewage never stops

I was part of an extensive sewer lift project about four years ago where we swapped out the entire control panels. The entire lift station had to be powered down and pulled apart. We set up a temp panel with HOA switches to run the vacuum and lift pumps and hooked it up to a portable generator. We all took turns watching the level of the wet well and when it got high enough ran the pumps in Hand.

Plan B was to have Vactor trucks pumping out the wet well, but the temp panel worked so well we didn't have to use them and didn't even have them around after doing the first station.
