Today I had the worst final inspection I have ever had. The inspector checked nothing and passed every thing. The home is a fire remodel the home owner has now turned the garage into a bedroom this is where the panel is. On the back side exterior wall is the meter base. The inspector walked up to the window which was open looked in saw the cover on, all breakers were labeled walked three feet put the inspection sticker on meter base, signed it got in truck and left. This inspector was from another county since the two inspectors here in our county have been fired and we have no inspectors.I know some elect. would be happy with this inspection but I am not.For all this guy knew I could have had wires hanging lose from the ceiling,I didn't need to gfci the baths or kitchen. I could have left out all the receptacles except for this one room. Talk about increasing you profit margin.

Re: poor inspection

Maybe if you live somewhere nice I'll move. I need a warmer place than 6" of snow in early November. I promise  I won't give an inspection like this.

Humm...

One thing to keep in mind is that ultimately, the person that pulled the permit is the one with the liability. If something should go wrong in the future, the insurance company comes looking for you!

...And me. Are you familiar with the term "negligent malfeasance"?

From what I have seen with construction lawsuits, they are a shot-gun effect--I get a bb you get a bb the designer gets one, the engineer gets one...

Re: poor inspection

Ryan,

Check your paperwork and see if it doesn't have the standard legal disclaimer about the city's responsibility for inspections.

I'll bet it does!

N.C. it was 84 here today.
Yes its my a-- that is what gets me. The inspector will hold no liability if something goes wrong.
As for our inspectors one was fired,IMO as a political cover your butt. The one that was left was fired last week for still being a active gen. contractor, conflict of interest, he was inspecting his competitions work and p----d the wrong one off.
And lastly, I didn't leave wires hanging, I did gfci the kitch. and bath and yes all recpt. are in :p

Re: poor inspection

Websparky,

Just to mention, there are also Inspectors from private agencies in some areas that aren't connected to the municipality at all.

They present acceptable credentials to the town and put up a big Bond. I believe they do share the Liability with the installer on jobs they have given their approval to.
