Hey Guys I know a GFCI is not required for a porch mounted ceiling fan, but there is no reason I could not use one..right? I've heard of problems with the arc faults and fans. The only reason I am asking is because the power out to the porch now is GFI protected. So my dumb question is can I use the existing GFI circuit to power the fan? Also I will be installing a switch that controls the light and the fan. Do you guys see anything wrong with this. I will also be mounting a light on the outside entry of the screened in porch. Thanks for your input.

Re: Porch Ceiling Fan GFCI?

As long as the circuit feeding the porch/fan is not in violation with 210.23, it would be fine.

GFCI protection for you installation should not create any problems. If the GFCI were to trip, before you decide it is not good for your install, check for typical GFCI problems that may cause it to trip.
