Portable 5Kv cable above ground

Hi there. We are installing a provisions to roll up a portable 5kv generator to backup our stationary, permanently installed generators. Can the 5kv cables for the portable generator be installed along the ground when installed outdoors to the building? I assume we will need ome sort of protection similar to what the movies use when they are filming outdoors or running power indoors from portable outdoor generators.

Any reference to NEC sections will be helpful.
