I have a customer that has a 3000w coleman portable generator. When their power goes out occasionally, they run extension cord from a few things in the house (Freezer, TV, Refrig) outside to the generator. They want me to install a pair of outlets inside with a power inlet on the opposite side of the wall (outside), so they can plug the generator into the inlet outside and then plug their cords in on the inside. So they can supply power to these extension cords in the event of an outage, without having to leave a door open to run a cord out to the backyard.
I would install a twist-lock inlet and in-use cover outside, and then make a matching cord-set for the generator. The generator has its own built in circuit breaker and since it is cord connected I figure this provides a disconnecting means.
I wouldn't even know where to find code information on a set-up like this, I don't see any problems with this kind of set-up.
Any insight on relevant code sections or general advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
