Can i use existing dryer line 10/2 for inlet portable generator ?
Do i need to run new cable 10/3 across entire house?
Panel is in garage and customer wants generator located on backyard. He is not using dryer receptacle anymore.

Do you mean I can not use dryer circuit 10/2?
First question -No
Second question - Yes
Exactamundo.

First (unless you only have a 120v genny), you shouldn't use the bare EGC as the neutral.

Second, yes, you need a 4-wire feeder that does not land on a non-interlocked breaker.
