where would portable structures be at in the nec. what i have is 4, 6'x6' buildings on skids so they can be moved around the fairgrounds as needed . they all have one light and one receptacle. right now they backfeed the outdoor receptacle on the structure with uf cable with male cord caps on both ends ( an accident waiting to happen). what would be the best way to provide power to these building? my idea is to install a 2' cord with a cord cap coming out of weatherproof box on the outside of the building then they can simply be unpluged to move.
any other ideas

Re: portable structures

You can buy weatherproof power inlets that have a male socket inside. Some rating that are locking can be obtained at Home Depot for connection of generators.

You could also try looking in the Leviton, Pass & Seymour, and Hubbell catalogs for these devices. You can get inlets in straight blade, locking, and pin&sleeve ( extra heavy duty ).

Your idea for a pigtail will not work unless the plug and extension cord use weatherproofing boots or pin&sleeve devices which are inherently submersible when assembled correctly.

You should read Article's 525 and 527. 525 will also refer you to 518 and 520.
