Possible Problem?

I am installing a 4 wire 50A feeder to a spa disconnect panel, the problem arising is that when the concrete contractor poured the walkway he stubbed the conduit through the concrete with RMC and the rest of the conduit he ran with PVC. Will the end of the RMC(which is obviously now in concrete)have to be bonded to the ground wire?

Re: Possible Problem?

You do not have to bond both ends, as long as you bond the end above the concrete by some means you are all set.

Just continuing with RMC and bonding that at it's termination will be fine.

I almost never penetrate a slab with PVC, I find it is to likely to break off flush with the slab.

Typically I will tun PVC underground to an RMC sweep out of the slab and EMT above that. In this case the EMT bonds the RMC sweep.

Re: Possible Problem?

2005 code

680.42 A spa or hot tub installed outdoors shall comply with the provisions of Parts I and II of this article, except as permitted in 680.42(A) and 680.42(B), that would otherwise apply to pools installed outdoors.

If this thing is sitting on a pad I would ground the pipe to the Equipotential Bonding Grid outlined in 680.26

From the RMC to enclosure with EMT will tie enclosure to grid as outline by Bob
