Are there words from the Possibly Unenforceable and Vague Terms from the 2003 NEC Style Manual used the in the 2005 NEC? The 2002 is full of them.

Re: Possibly Vauge

Yes, there are several.

110.12 - "workmanlike"

110.14 - "suitable"

110.22 - "legibly"

110.26 - "sufficent"

110.26(A) - "likely"

That's without trying to find them. There is probably 5 per typical page.

Re: Possibly Vauge

They generally will come out when proposals are made to take them out. In some cases, the panel wants them left alone in order for the AHJ to be able to make the call. For instance, 230.70(A)(1) "or inside nearest the point of entrance". Proposals have been made for years to get an acceptable distance permitted. Exactly what does "nearest" mean when you are coming up through the floor to a 100 ampere panelboard? How about through the wall and down into the top of a 4000 ampere switchgear? A little ambiguity is not all bad but I agree that the Code has too much. :D

Re: Possibly Vauge

I like to think that the NEC should be made easier to understand and ambiguity would seem to conflict with clarity. You make a good point though Charlie. There could be an advantage to being slippery. That's a good example, I'm sure a discussion with an AHJ about service placement in a wierd situation would be purely constructive.

Edit: On the other hand if you make the dicision by yourself it could be nothing but trouble.
