I hope that this the correct place to post this question.

How do I post a picture?

Sounds simple enough....

My problem is that all of my pictures are larger than 146.5KB, which is apparently the size limit.

I see a lot of pictures on this site that have a lot more detail than most of my pictures, yet, my pictures are running 180-220KB.

What is the trick?
Is it a setting on my camera?
Do I need to trim my pictures.....some of them can't be trimmed without removing some of what I want to show.

I have (2) digital cameras that I regularly take pictures with...although about all I know about them is.....Turn it on.....aim....shoot.

Any help or advice is appreciated.

Wow, thats alot to go through to post a picture, I think I will stick with the attachments.

Good question, I was going to ask that myself.

Thanks for the response 480sparky.

It seems a little more complicated than I had hoped.

I was looking for..."you need to stand closer to the object"...or...."you need to flip this switch on your camera"....you know what I mean.:D

Anyway, I'll give it a try.
I'm on dial-up (I know, I know), so it'll be a slow process.

Thanks
steve

Some cameras have a resize (resample) feature built-in. However, implementation varies... so you'll have to resort to your camera's user manual for how to do it.

Additionally, many cameras feature reduced-pixel settings... such as an email-attachment setting.

Keep in mind though, that taking pictures on such a setting, or resampling them, will make the file size smaller and the photo will have less clarity.

EDIT to add...

If you're on dial up, you'll definitely want to resample/downsize your photos before uploading (regardless of hosting site).

Pursuing another method... Do you have any image or photo editing software on your computer? What operating system is your computer? If you're running Vista, you may have Windows Photo Gallery (WPG) already. IIRC, you can use the email feature there to resize photos... when the email pops up, open the attachments and save them. By default they would open in WPG, so you willl only have the option to copy to gallery (which saves the in the user Pictures folder). Then close the email (depending on you default email client, you may have to delete the email).

Photobucket also has a feature that limits the size of an image. I don't know how to use it because I resize images before I upload them.

Wouldn't such downsizing happen after uploading? When I upload to photobucket, I choose the image file on my 'puter and that is what uploads. So I believe any downsizing is after the upload... which is not advisable for anyone on dial-up!

I use a 7.2 MP camera, so the image size is 3069x2302 pixels. Before I upload anything I am going to post on a forum, I reduce it 80% to 615x461.

hillbilly and zog,

You both made my day . . .
Thought I was the last one standing who was 'photo posting challenged'. Tried it, didn't like it, even with 480's help. Some of us are just incorrigible.

Hillbilly double made my day revealing that he is a 'dial-up' type. Just knew that I was the last dial-up guy on the planet!

My camera runs on kerosene, and my trouble is keeping that wick trimmed.

Keep up that good work men, and

Best Wishes Everyone
