Potentially undersized conductor

I recently had an electrical contractor through who installed a new QO panel. Due to the antiquated nature of the main panel feeding the new panel, the OCPD is a 100 amp E-frame Westinghouse unit, and I cannot see any temp rating on the unit.

As I understand it, if no temp rating is evident, the conductor gauge must be specified from the 60deg column of table 310.16. He installed a #1 aluminum conductor, which is only good for 85amps at 60deg C, and as such is undersized for the application.

Before I politely ask about his choice of conductor here, I wanted to ask if anyone had any experience with the old Westinghouse OCPD's and if there was any potential that they were good to 75deg C?

Best,

You should talk to your electrician because he is correct with the wire sizing. The NEC allows for 83% reduction for services for dwelling units. 100 x 83% is 83 amps- #1 is good for 85 amps at 60C

Was not clear if this is the supply to a dwelling unit, if it is then that is fine.
