Would someone please be so kind as to point me in the right direction for information on a "Power Conditioner"? I have had a call from a gentleman and he is having me to give him a price to add a, in his words, "Generator Receptacle" at his panel so he will be able to keep his computers running. I am assuming that the "Power Conditioner" is for the computers.

Any help or guidance will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

PS I was not sure where to post this topic.

In the IT world, "power conditioner" is some sort of a noise filter, often combined with voltage regulation (either ferro-res transformer or an electronic tap changer). What it -sounds- like he wants a UPS. You first need to know how much load, whether he needs real uninteruptable power (and for how long), and what his budget is. If he needs less that 2kva, I'd install an dedicated circuit for a UPS and tell him to get an APC SmartUPS or a small Liebert. Heck, if it's less than 5-6kva, do the same.

You mave have to copy and paste the above address.
It's what we call a generator receptacle. We use the reversed service configuration in our shelters so our customers can connect a portable
generator to the building for emergency backup power. Through a manual transfer switch of course!
Sounds like he wants a UPS with a generator backup power source to keep his systems up in a utility power loss.

the customer probably wants a standby UPS, at least. or an online UPS at most.

we have clients who have huge UPS that have their own receptacles in the computer rooms. receptacles are clearly labeled 'for computer use only'.

What to buy...

What to buy...

I just got in from looking at this job. I have been asked to price and purchase an Outdoor Transfer Switch. I'm thinking about a 30 amp 6 circuit Switch.

I would like to know if anyone would or could recommend a Brand or Model type.

Thanks

I assume that he wants a generator and not a UPS connected on the LINE side of the transfer switch. If he wants a UPS then it needs to be inline with the LOAD. The UPS will, depending on the UL listing of the unit, filter power for transients, surges, sags, etc.... and provide him with the filtering he's requesting. Unless he already has individual UPS modules to supply backup power during a utility outtage to his computers there will be a brief downtime while the generator starts up and starts supplying power.

Kohler has some smaller transfer switches as well:
