A PDU is a fancy title for a very fast solid state transfer switch (STS), step down transformer and a distribution panelboard all in one box. Sometimes the PDU doesn't have an STS, but this one does.
This PDU in question has an upstream circuit breaker set to trip at 480A serving one input of a STS, with the load side serving a 600A molded case switch, serving a 300kVA transformer (480-208/120V), serving a 1200A MLO panelboard containing (6) 225A feeder breakers.
The entire PDU is listed under UL 478 Standard for Electronic Data-Processing Units and Systems, UL 1950 Standard for Safety of Information Technology Equipment or UL 60950 Standard for Safety of Information Technology Equipment.
Does the fact that it is UL listed exclude it from violating Table 450.3(B) note 2?
I think it does. What do you think?
