Is this a valid installation: Rigid conduit from a ceiling down (in mid air) to a cast receptacle box. A conduit from the box to a flange on the floor so the conduit/box would be supported at the ceiling and at the floor.
This would be in a commercial kitchen to locate receptacles for equipment that is not near a wall.
Actually I would want to use more than one box so going down from the ceiling it would be 7 feet of conduit, box, nipple, box, 18" conduit, and flange at floor.
Should I just use a power pole?

I'd probably use a single piece of stainless unistrut from floor to ceiling or 10', whichever comes first. Rigid is nice, but the threaded connections aren't that strong when you run a cart full of potatoes into the whole thing.

Thanks. 314.23 does look like it applies. I will just use a power pole. Probably aluminum. Does any one make a stainlees steel power pole?
