Power quality improvement

The company I work for is looking at purchasing some equipiment for power quality improvement. We have been talking to a couple different companies that are are claiming large power factor improvement, phase balancing, improved voltage stability, harmonic reduction,surge and transient filtering all from the same unit.
I was wondering if anyone is using similar equipiment and if the promised benefits were seen.

Is your company actually having any of those problems or was this the result of an unsolicited sales pitch? I know of no one product that would solve all those problems.

Is you company experiencing these problems?

Is the magnitude of the problem such that it actually needs to be addressed?

Virtually everyone has these issues to one extent or another. Most times, there is no real need to do anything at all about them, since they don't really harm anything.

Yes, I have. Incredible that the people who did the sales pitch did not mention anyone who bought their products. My experience with these people is that they are not afraid to name drop any company that they made contact with.

Why not have your utility check if your facility does have power quality problems? Our utility even offers energy audits if you have an energy conservation in your company.
 
There was a thread a while ago that discussed one of these things, that actually had a testimonial from a big company (Coke maybe?) which a forum member wrote to the person who wrote the testimonial, and actually got a reply, in which they said the box worked for them, much, I think, to everyone's surprise. Can't find the thread however :(
 
We had a similar large international customer that was so impressed with the KW. energy savings,they presented a paper to a large technical conference.They also gave interviews to a local trade magazine,quoting savings of 15%-20% per month of reduced KW charges.Unfortunately, the local utility read this magazine,changed the metering the next week and the kw energy savings disappeared.:)

Now that is funny, and yet, somehow, sad... The moral must be, if you fit one of these things, and it works, keep your mouth shut!
