Power Sifter

I'm trying to find out some info on a Power Sifter. It is hooked between the ATS and the feed to the main switchgear. Am I wrong to think that if the generator cant handle the load this device would start shedding some load before dumping the whole system?

Is "Power Sifter" a brand name, or slang for 'Automatic Load Shedding'?

Cutler Hammer has had this for some time.

In home ATS use, they started with a transfer swith with an A/C option that would handle (1) A/C up to 30 amps..
They have other options available.

Cutler Hammer is no longer using Briggs and Stratton.
They have now teamed up with Generac. I'm not certain if the 'Big Box' stores are selling Generac's with Cutler Hammer controls, but my Cutler Hammer ATS units now have Generac engines.
