Alright so I'll explain my situation and let me know if I'm crazy. So two nights ago a tree fell on a power line outside my neighborhood. Everyone's power starting going on/off/on/off/on/off then POP! The power stayed off for a few hours and when it came back on, the 4 foot 10 outlet power strip with surge protection in the living room had stopped working but luckily, saved everything on it (TV, PS5, receiver, etc.). So I swapped the strip, no problem. When I went to the fuse box I saw one flipped breaker and I flipped it back and it tripped again. So on that circuit are two small bathrooms, and the single garage outlet which has a deep freezer and a 6 outlet surge protector with a new led tv, small box fan, and a treadmill. Well I removed everything but the freezer and switched it on again and it stayed on. Then I plugged up the surge protector and plugged up each piece one by one and it all worked. Then this morning I turned on the treadmill and it threw an error saying there was a damaged speed detector. So while the treadmill was on I manually started pushing the treadmill track, creating a speed reading and it kicked the circuit breaker again. So then I plugged the treadmill only into the outlet , flipped the fuse box switch and POP,, the treadmill is dead. Now I'm convinced the outlet will try anything I plug up, even though everytime it tripped the treadmill, which may have been damaged was plugged up. I want to replace it, but not blow up the new thing I plug up.
So to the question I guess, is it possible that a power surge coming into the house could turn an outlet into a permanent device killer?
