The client has this question, is GFCI outlets required in preaction fire sprinkler system room?
I looked at NEC 210.8 but there is no reference. Thank you.

There is no specific requirement for GFCI protection in a fire sprinkler room. Protection may be required if the sprinkler room is in one of the areas where 210.8 requires GFCI protection.

NEC 2020 requires GFCI outlets in indoor damp location, not sure this will be the case? Probably not...

I hope not!!!! No.

Then I think we have an answer to the OP's question. Just because there's water in the neighborhood doesn't automatically mean GFCI.

Having said that, depending on the size of the room and the arrangement of components, you might consider installing weatherproof receptacles. If there is any maintenance work conducted on the sprinkler system, the possibility of water spraying around shouldn't be ignored.
