Pretwisting response from Ideal Industries

As promised, here's the response from Ideal regarding pretwisting and their products. Please note, I am NOT trying to get the debate started again, just wanted the info available.

"Thank you for your recent email and interest in IDEAL INDUSTRIES.

The wire connectors manufactured by IDEAL INDUSTRIES INC do not "require"
Pre-Twisting. The conductors may be Pre-Twisted prior to using an IDEAL
connector without causing any problems.

Pre-Twisting of the conductors prior to twisting a connector onto the
conductors is acceptable and will make a good connection.

Many electricians were taught to Pre-Twist the conductors prior to twisting
a connector onto the conductors. The Pre-Twisting operation was taught so
that electricians could see that they have made a good mechanical and
electrical connection before they screwed the connector onto the
conductors. A connector used after the conductors were Pre-Twisted only
served to hold the conductors together and to insulate the conductors.

Pre-Twisting was originally taught because the twist-on connectors were
made from plastics that were brittle and could not take the forces required
to twist the conductors together inside the connector.

The connectors manufactured today by IDEAL are manufactured with high
strength plastics and conical inserts that are intended to take the forces
generated when Pre-Twisting of the conductors is not done first.

The instructions on the package of connectors instructs the user to twist
the connector onto the conductors until about two twists appear in the
insulated conductors outside of the bottom of the connector. By twisting
the connector on until two twists appear in the wires outside of the
connector the user is assured that the connection is mechanically and
electrically secure.

I hope this information helps, if you have any other questions please feel
free to contact me.

Sincerely"

Re: Pretwisting response from Ideal Industries

Ask them if they ever, on their website, said "not to pretwist".

At one time I copied this from someones website, though I cannot remember who's.
