There was a thread initiated by the wife of an electrical apprentice, requesting help with regard to a labor issue. I had suspected that that thread would evolve into a discussion of unions and merit shops. It did. So I removed it.

That topic is strictly forbidden, at the expressed direction of the Forum owner.

It seemed like something that was unlikely to be resolved on this kind of forum anyway.

I will now use a dirty word - LAWYER. I think thats what this guy needs.

Let's give them the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps he is not computer-literate, and perhaps she is doing nothing more than typing as he dictates.

I'll use another Dirty Word....DIVORCE.
The day I allow my wife to fight my battles or even to mention my problems to a online forum of strangers.

Spank the Monkey!!!!! Bad Boy!!! Just kidding, OK? :)

I agree with Charles E. Beck! My X wife was computer illiterate (still is) so I had to do all her stuff on the PC. But I was smart enough to make everyone think she was doing it! (OH, not saying she's dumb either, I've noticed a lot of people here take offense kinda easy)

I hadn't noticed that. Most times if a poster makes an error in a post, a subsequent poster will point that out. No ranting in response. Most of us make mistakes and are happy to learn, so we don't spread our mis-knowledge.

The moderators do take a tough line on union vs. non-union if that is what you are referring to. It is an issue (not unlike abortion) that is difficult for some people to discuss in a calm and polite way. It is way too emotional for a lot of people to be able to discuss in a polite forum. And this is a pretty polite forum. There are plenty of places you can go where people flame each other continuously to the point where it is unpleasant to be there.

I've got that part down quite well, now it I could just improve on the learning part so I could be happy all of the time.

I wasn't involved, nor did I see any of the posts,
But, what about these affiliations in a signature line?

Are these allowed?

Can we list our prides of these 'taboo topics'?

Some members have "Local IBEW 362436" or whatever in their signature. I don't see a problem with that. Stating an affiliation isn't like saying "Go Union" or "Merit Sucks". It's just saying "I'm in this group."

I put the largest close city in my location for all to see, so that local folks contact me if they want to visit. I see this as being in the same vein, IMO.

The only times I have intervened in the selection of a signature tag have been when the member includes an email address or phone number. However, I would not rule out the possibility of intervening, if in my opinion someone's signature tag crossed a line between "this is my affiliation" and "all others are ungood." You will note that I have "P.E." in my signature tag. I hope no one takes that as an affront to those engineers who are not similarly licensed.

On a similar theme, there has been only one time that I intervened in the selection of an avatar. I would do so again, if (again in my opinion) the selected avatar were offensive.

Does this mean that those of us who are not engineers are allowed to take it as an affront?:p :p

You keep up with the quality answers you usually provide and you can put anything you like in your signature tag.
