Primary Underground Distribution Grounding

We have always run a grounding conductor with our primary underground conductors, whether it is 5KV or 15 KV.

I was recently told that this "now does not meet code", but there was no explanation as to why, or where this is found in the NEC. Can anyone shed any light on this subject?

I really don't know anything about over 600V systems, however have you reviewed 250.180 of the NEC?

Re: Primary Underground Distribution Grounding

Hey Sparky, You need to keep running this primary neutral, system ground (multiground neutral system).Otherwise you won't have a fault protection, or balance protection if you have a lot of single phase transformers on the loop. This primary neutral, system ground needs to be complete end to end.all your transformer grounding loops, drains etc. all tie into this.
some references;250.4 (a)5 250.4 (b)4 310.7 250.184 a-b-c.
