I want to put a 40W 3-in-1 printer in my van. What's the easiest way to power it? I have no other power needs than this printer.

I'm going to take a wild statement/guess here and state that you'll have to have the power for the 3 and 1 up, before you boot your lap-top!

Handyman special.

Handyman special.

Then you will need a three way plug adapter to also plug in the laptop, tom tom, drill battery charger.

A real handyman special!

Maybe a power strip would be better for the drip coffee maker, hot plate, microwave, .. hmmm....

How bout a small house panel hooked up to that inverter, with a silk cord, or maybe just mount a generator on the roof of the van and use extension cords. Remember to use 125% of the loads for your load calculations.

It would be like the Clampets have come to work on your house! Hold on Grannys fixin up a mess of possum again. This Yourn road kill ?? Wheee doggie! Hand me that handy box Jethro!

wouldnt a full sine wave be better for electornic equipment?

Well yes, usually not always the first thing thats inside an electronic device is a transformer, this happens to be wired for a reverse application.
By the way the Spec. says with 10% of RMS in the literature.

Here's a photo of my setup. It's made from 1 in. aluminum angle and lexan. The printer sits on a lexan shelf and is strapped in with velcro straps. It's powered by an inverter that plugs into one of the two 12volt power ports I have. The laptop plugs into the other one.

Aline, can you post a pic showing more of the frame? I want to build a custom unit for my vehicle and you have a clean look from the front. How did you do the support from the underside and the floor? Or is it strong enough with the low weight of the computer. How does it act if some idiot causes you to slam on the breaks?

I can't tell if your windows are tinted or not but how does it handle the sun / heat in the summer when your on the job for 6 hours. Of course I would try to remove - cover it, but that may not happen every time.

Thanks in advance.

What do you guys with these laptop setups do about security?
I sometimes work in some BAD neighborhoods, and something like these setups might not last long.

You guys with printers in your vans must live south of the Mason-Dixon line. Up north here, we'd never be able to print anything for 6 months.
