I'm not sure it was prior to 08, it may have been 05 but when it was ok to run a three wire from a pedistal, did you still have to isolate the grounded and grounding conductors at the sub sanel? I think that's the way I did it but i'm a little fuzzy on it right now.:roll:
 
If the pedestal was deemed a separate structure, under the 05 and earlier Codes you did not have to provide a separate equipment ground in some conditions. Under '08, you must always provide a EGC>

I don't think you needed a Main at the house either in those days :roll:

I don't recall a time when that was Code.... I do see older jobs where it was installed that way...but my older Codes seem to require the main (or "mains" back when split buss was common)
