That's good news, but you still have a bone to pick with the original inspection agency. I'd get the AHJ involved. On the one hand you have a sloppy electrical contractor, and on the other, a complicit inspection service. It took 2 to tango.

Silverbk: I think this would make a great 2nd step.

3rd step: hold those involved responsible for their actions and punish them through the court system.

There are several issues that were not addressed in all the 9 pages of discussion.

1) The inspector has a legal responsibility for his inspection. If items are overlooked he is legally responsible and can be held financially reponsible for any loss resulting from his oversight. This could be rework or even upto replacing your house and personal belongings etc if the house catches fire due to an electrical cause. If I was the GC I would go after him for the rework costs along with the EC.

2) If you intend to sell the house, code defects must be corrected or disclosed in a disclosure document. I am certain correcting the defects would be much less painful.

3) Are the nuetrals continous thru the boxes? When I first read your description I got the impression they were not. If a EC will put 2 wires under a screw they may well run nuetrals thru the device. Please comment.

Do you mean like using the receptacle outlet screws to pass the neutral through to the next device?

I also thought that neutrals had to be pigtailed period, but I couldn't find the code reference in 2005

Nope, just the equipment grounding conductor.

Did I read that correctly????

Did I read that correctly????

You have a master in two countities and in Dutchess county your not required to have a license to perform electrical work?? Is this accurate? I am from NYC, I have a master in NYC and NJ. I am currently working on getting NY state to adopt a law that it would be a felony crime to perform work without a master electrical license. get in touch with me as I would like to find out more about this.
