Well, we like to see our jobs with markup, since we can't get anyone to agree on the lipstick color.

Our jobs range from $5,000 to about $150,000, clustered on the lower end. At $5,000 we sometimes ask for 100% up front. If we don't, it's usually 30% with the signed quote, 30% on substantial delivery of materials, 30% before the final, and 10% within 30 days after the final.

Here in NJ you cannot request the final payment until after the final inspection. Back in the day we always made the final payment the permit costs which due to being variable were not included In the original contract.

That's the final 10% for us, but permit costs are always extra, and we make that clear in our quotes.
