Picked up an Ideal Economy Kit (33-620) - which has a coaxial cable stripper, a compression tool and a cutter - and includes RG-6 and RG-6Q connectors.

What should the proper "strip" look like? The instruction sheet (little piece of paper) isn't very clear. I would assume that all the braid should remain intact, although I am curious how you assure it makes it up inside the connector you need to slide on. Or are you just supposed to keep the thin metal shield intact, removing the braid when you "strip" the cable. There are two blades in the stripper - one to cut deep and allow removal of the teflon insulation, and the other to score the jacket of the coax. Anyone have access to some more detailed instructions than they supply?

In the past, I've used those screw on coaxial fittings - but they don't stay on well if the cable gets moved around a lot.

The stripper I have has two blades. One is for RG 6 and the other is for RG 59 cable. The cable is stripped back about 1" total. The shield is exposed about 3/8 to 1/2 inch and the inner wire is exposed about the same. Then just slip the connector over and use the crimp tool or the squeeze tool (whatever it is called).

This tool by Thomas & Betts will strip the wire perfect everytime, and will also compress the fitting... very nice tool, best one I've used yet...
