Proper termination of flexible multi strand cable

I am looking for any substantial or pertinant information that backs the importance of properly terminating flexible multistrand conductors. I understand the importance in using listed pin adaptors or lugs. I've been told that regular mechanical lugs do not ensure a sound connection through time, due to the air space between the multiple strands, and that they eventually shift or settle even if properly torqued. I have explained this to my supervisor, however he wants me to back it with documentation. Any suggesstions?

UL 486AB, says (paraphrased) that the lugs, crimp or mechanical, are tested to Class B stranding unless they are marked on the lug for other stranding - and some are.

For example Marathon Special Products PDB says it is listed for class I stranding.
