Hi all
what is the proper cu. volume and max wire size for condulets
We have found that this vary from mfg to mfg all being UL approved? Is there a base somewhere we can find the proper and correct info, so as to be according to code? We need this for all LB, LL, LL, C and T for all sizes , these are for Zin die cast both EMT and rigid .
thanks.

Many of the larger size LB's , etc list the max. wire size that they will accommodate. Thee is no NEC code that you can find that says what size the LB must be.

Conduit bodies, like pull boxes, must be sized according to 314.28 which are the 6X and 8X rules. Smaller allowances are permitted when the conductor's size and quantity is listed by the manufacturer on the conduit body.

If your talking small wire it's the conduit fill.

314.16(C) Conduit Bodies.
(1) General. Conduit bodies enclosing 6 AWG conductors or smaller, other than short-radius conduit bodies as described in 314.5, shall have a cross-sectional area not less than twice the cross-sectional area of the largest conduit or tubing to which they can be attached. The maximum number of conductors permitted shall be the maximum number permitted by Table 1 of Chapter 9 for the conduit or tubing to which it is attached.

Good point, I was referring to larger than #6 conductors. Often your condulet will not permit the same size and number of conductor that 40% conduit fill will permit. Recently saw a job where they installed 5-600 kcmil conductors into an LB condulet marked "Maximum 3-500 kcmil conductors". Although the conduit was properly sized the conduit body wasn't.

How? :-? I'm amazed they didn't damage any insulation.

That's where mogul-type bodies come into play.

They actually used a nylon sleeve and plenty of lube to get the wire in without damage.
